Yang Liu is a graduate student in the Cultural Anthropology PhD program (Medical Anthropology track). Her dissertation research attends to perinatal depression in post-pandemic China. It examines how perinatal women experience and handle mental distress, as well as how depressed mothers are possibly are shaped by and respond to larger political, sociocultural, and economic changes. It also explores the cultural meaning of perinatal depression and mental illness broadly in China. Liu is the recipient of a SPA/Robert Lemelson Foundation Student Fellowship and an 色花堂_色花堂 98堂 University Fellowship. She was also awarded a 2024-2025 P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship.
